Background
As Nick finishes his first year of racing sprint cars in California he can really appreciate the passion his dad has for the sport. His father, Tim Green, is a former World of Outlaw regular, World of Outlaw Rookie of the year, Two time Knoxville Track Champion and California Sprint Car Champion. Tim retired as a driver in 1996, but, that does not mean he has been sitting idle. He has been teaching his son everything he knows about racing for the past ten years and Nick has soaked it up like a sponge.
Tim's career started when he was eleven years old racing go-karts. It didn't take long to see that Tim had tallent and drive to be a winner. During the eight year span in karting Tim won over 100 races, including two California and two National Championships. Tim wanted to race cars in the worst way so in 1976, Tim and his father, who was a veteran Super Modified Car Owner in Northern California, put a car together. Tim had a lot of speed right out of the box and won "Rookie Of The Year" and had one main event win in his first year.
In 1978 Tim met and drove for Kenny Woodruff who is one of the most famous sprint car owners in the country. Tim ran third in his first ever sprint car race for Kenny. Tim and Kenny ran the World of Outlaws from mid 1979 thru june of 1980. During that time Tim won Rookie of the Year in 1979 and finished fourth in points in 1980. Tim and Kenny formed a great relationship that led him to meeting premier car builder Bob Trostle in that same year. Bob convinced Tim to move to Iowa to work and race for him in the Midwest.
Tim made the move to Iowa and Bob put him in his famed #20 and the two of them became a dominant force throughout the Midwest. Along with 55 victories in two years came two Knoxville track Championships. Tim made two trips to Australia with Bob once in 1982 and once in 1983. In 1982 Tim won a very impressive 11 out of 17 races "down under:; a record until Steve Kinser broke it in 2001. Follownig his success with Bob Trostle, Tim moved back to California in 1984 to race close to home and start a family.
In 1986, Tim drove the famed Baily Bros #01 to one of his three Skagit Super Dirt Cup victories. Later that same year he started driving for Vergil and Annie Owen, a team he raced for and retired with in 1996. During that ten year span, Tim and the Allweld #14 Sprinter collected over 100 victories, four of which were NARC/CRA Non-Wing Challenge races, and three Championships.
Tim was ranked as high as ninth in the National Sprint Car Poll in 1989, and was inducted into the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame in 1997. He has worked with a lot of the top motor and car builders in the sprint car industry such as Bob Trostle, Ron Shaver, Dick Anderson, Ken Jenkins and numerous others to help promote and advance the sport.
Tim resides in San Jose, CA. where he is helping his talented son, Nick get off on the right foot in his driving career. According to Tim, Nick is very knowledgeable and is as smooth a driver as he ever seen. Nick has one of the best teachers any driver could ask for in his father, and the communication between the two of them is amazing. Nick and his dad spend hours on end talking about racing, driving , and car set ups. The two of them are constantly trying to come up with ways to be even faster. Nick adapted to sprint cars very quickly and his natural ability was clearly evident from the first time he strapped in. Even early on, Nick has shown many characteristics that made his father one of the beat sprint car drivers to ever push off. Nick and his father are a potent combination and Nick's drive, determination, and talent he is sure to go far.
